First Street Fish Soup
I met Desmond at a recent reservist stint where he enthralled me with tales of working at his Dad's Teochew fish soup stall. I've always been one into the culinary arts and was quite tickled by the enthusiasm this SHATEC graduate exhibited when describing the finer points of concocting a perfect bowl of fish soup. Apparently it's all in the freshness of the fish and the secret seasoning which goes into the pomfret which is served here at First Street.
Being the not shy guy that I am, I invited myself over for an afternoon of photography at the stall. Coincidentally, another reservist buddy turned up at the same time and the three of us had a little reservist reunion.

Desmond's dad started the stall some 16 years ago and now has a large group of regular clientle who frequents his stall on a daily basis. Here he explains how everything would be Desmond's one day... you can see the psyched out look on Desmond's face. The camera does not lie.

Ok. this is a lot harder than it looks, especially when your ladle is the size of the bowl.

Service with a smile!

And it's all in the cut. The fish is delivered fresh each morning, hand sliced and soaked in a secret seasoning which has been perfected over the years.

Desmond's dad is quite the chilli padi. He entertained us with tales of his younger days spent in wild Bandung. Apparently Desmond was close to not being born had his father have a certain way with a Bandung beauty, apparently it's the first time Desmond has heard about this too.

Their next door neighbor in the Bak Kut Teh stall fell victim to this shutterbug too.
